Neck Pain and Stiffness: Causes and Natural Remedies

Neck pain is one of the most common complaints of modern people – no wonder, given hours spent staring at screens and smartphones. The good news: tension in the neck can be treated well naturally.

Why does the neck tense up so easily?

Nackenschmerzen natürlich lindern

The neck muscles constantly bear the weight of the head (approx. 5–7 kg) – when bent forward, the leverage effect even increases this to three to five times. Stress further intensifies the tension, because when we are tense, we unconsciously pull our shoulders up and stiffen our necks. Typical consequences: tension headaches, restricted mobility, and radiating pain in the shoulders or arms.

What really helps with neck tension?

Heat, targeted massage, and pressure on the tense muscles are the most effective immediate measures. This is exactly where acupressure comes in: by stimulating pressure points in the neck area, muscles are relaxed, blood circulation is promoted, and pain signals are interrupted.

The acupressure pillow – specifically for the neck

While the acupressure mat stimulates the entire back, the acupressure pillow (also called neck pillow or neck roll) is specially designed for the cervical spine and neck area. It is placed under the neck and stimulates the muscles from C1 to C7 – precisely the zone affected by neck pain and tension headaches.

Application: Lie on your back on the floor or a firm surface for 10–20 minutes with the pillow under your neck. The combination with the acupressure mat (back + neck simultaneously) is particularly effective.

Immediate exercises for acute neck pain

  • Neck rolls: Slowly roll your head in a semicircle from left to right (do not throw it back). 5× per side.
  • Shoulder circles: Make large, slow circular movements with your shoulders – relieves backward tension.
  • Chin to chest: Slowly pull your chin towards your chest, hold for 10 seconds. Stretches the entire cervical spine.

Long-term prevention

Regular acupressure (15 min mat + pillow daily), an ergonomic workplace with the monitor at eye level, and short movement breaks every 60 minutes – this is how you keep neck tension permanently at bay.
